Obituary for Prentice Lee Johnson Sr.

Prentice Lee Johnson, Sr., a long-time resident of Mobile, AL departed this life on February 17, 2019. Bro. Johnson was born on May 30, 1933 in McIntosh, AL to the union of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ossie and Emma Roberts Johnson.

Bro. Johnson united with Greater Morning Star Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. C. H. Peterson. He remained a faithful and loyal member until his health failed. He served as an usher, a member of the Senior Ministry, and rendered yard care maintenance at the church. He was a Long Shoreman of the Alabama State Docks for over 40 years. He was a member of the ILA Local 1410 and was a Mason in Hiram Lodge, No. 3. Bro. Johnson attended McIntosh High School where he met and later married the love of his life, Dora Bush Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Le-Anthony D. Johnson, two sisters, Audrey Johnson Morse and Maggie Johnson Thomas, two brothers, Sterling Johnson and Howard Johnson, and twin brother and sister in infancy.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Dora Bush Johnson; five children, Prentice L Johnson, Jr. and Jacquita (Wayne) Nardey both of Atlanta, GA, Ernie (Kara) Johnson, Emma (Kossie) Bumpers, and Tijuana (Gerald) Harris all of Mobile, AL.; Nine grandchildren, Beviticus (Stephanie) Billups, Taylor Harris, Elliot Johnson, Emil (Kyla) Johnson, Erin Katelyn Bumpers, Tyler Johnson Bumpers, Gerald Harris, II, Justin Harvey, and Jaelyn Harris; six great-grandchildren, Markell Morris, Tylor Morris, Amaury Morris, Traelyn Johnson, Landon Billups and Logan Billups; two sisters-in-law, Gertude Johnson of Mobile, AL and Erma Kennedy of Tuskegee, AL; two devoted nieces, Shelia Briggs and Michelle Lazaro; devoted cousin, Mable Seals Moore; extended family member, Darryl Williams; neighbors, Willie Jean Portis, Verline Powe, Sharon Ford and Ardeth “Jackie” Alfred, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
