Obituary for Lelia Mary Southall

Lelia Mary Southall, a native of Prichard, Alabama, and resident of Tuskegee, Alabama, was born on November 3, 1945. She departed this life on May 12, 2019, in the home of her loving, caring, and devoted sister, Deborah.
Lelia retired from the Mobile County School System after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Holmes Street Missionary Baptist Church, where she gave her life to Christ at an early age and where she taught primary grades Sunday School, was a member of the choir, and was the director of Vacation Bible School. Known by her family, friends, and colleagues as "the giver," Lelia was always willing to give her time and assistance to relatives, neighbors, and the church.
Lelia was an honor student at Cedar Grove Academy and after graduation went on to achieve her Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, and Specialist Degree, with Magna Cum Laude honors, from Alabama State University. She was a member of Mobile Alumni Chapter of the Alpha Pi Chi National Sorority, Inc.
Preceded in death by father J. C. Southall, mother Rosa Lee Southall, and sister Rose S. Wiggins, she is survived by her loving sister Mrs. Deborah (James) S. Harris of Tuskegee, Alabama, and loving brother Dr. Lee A. Southall of Stone Mountain, Georgia; nephew Mr. Waddell Wiggins of Mobile, Alabama; niece Mrs. Debreca (Eddie) Woodhouse of Columbus, Georgia; nephews Mr. James Charles (Markeisha) Harris of Montgomery, Alabama, and Mr. Eston (Carlotta) Harris of Opelika, Alabama; aunt Mrs. Helen (Arrie) Causey of Mobile, Alabama; devoted friend Mrs. Lois Martin of Mobile, Alabama; Goddaughter Keshia Martin; many devoted great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Southall Family would like to wholeheartedly thank Lelia's long time caregivers for their loving and devoted care: Gloria Clinton, Barbara Taylor, and Brenda Tyler, and many other part time caregivers.
