Obituary for James Earl Figures

A native of Mobile, Alabama and a residence of Daphne, Alabama, was
one of eleven children born May 3, 1933, to the union of the late Charles, Sr. and
Barbara Thornton Figures. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine
Figures Pettaway and Yvonne Figures; six brothers, Charles, Jr., Joseph,
Wilbert, Raymond, Avery and Alfred. He was a faithful member of the Mt. Zion
Missionary Baptist Church. James was a 1952 graduate of Central High School
and served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. After his military service,
he worked at the Brookley Air Force Base, Mobile, until it’s closing and then
transferred to Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL; until his retirement in
January 1991. After retiring, James worked for the Eastern Shoe Medical
Specialists. On any given day you could find James mowing and hedging his
‘beloved yard.’
James is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Marietta Conaway
Figures; daughter, Paula (Jeffery) McCants; granddaughter, Madisen Nicole
McCants; sister, Barbara (Gary) Pearson, Panama City, FL and brother, Norman
(Marilyn) Figures, Mobile; brother-in-law, Langdon (Anniece) Conaway,
Huntsville, AL; sisters-in-law, Lena Singleton Figures, Mt. Vernon, AL and
Barbara Conaway, Ann Arbor, MI. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, special family friend, Ann J.
